How to maintain your Zuto Hair extensions

Good maintenance starts before you even install your hair extensions. Make sure you thoroughly wash your natural hair with shampoo and conditioner. Some people even prefer to deep condition their hair since it won't be touched for weeks. Most of our hair extensions can be worn up to 6 months with good maintenance. However, the ideal amount of time will vary based on your preference and the present condition of your natural hair.

Weekly Maintenance

Moisturize your hair a few times a week to prevent dryness. Mix leave-in conditioner and plain water or aloe vera water in a spray bottle. Spritz your scalp and the extensions. Try not to over moisturize as this will cause product build up.

To help bring your hair back to life, apply mousse and oil sheen sparingly for extra shine. This is particularly helpful for goddess faux locs which have curly ends.

Wash Day

Yes, you can gently wash your natural hair and the extensions! The key is to focus on your scalp more than the hair.

Dilute shampoo and water in a spray bottle and spritz your scalp. Gently massage scalp with your fingertips. Rinse hair then apply leave-in conditioner and water mix to scalp. You can also apply a light oil to seal. Make sure your natural hair completely air dries to prevent odor.

You can cowash the hair extensions or apply a shampoo water mix. Rinse hair completely. Do this very gently to avoid unraveling the hair. Lightly moisturize extensions.

Nighttime

Put hair in a jumbo twist or pineapple to prevent matting. Always sleep with a satin bonnet or scarf to avoid excessive frizzing.

DO'S & DON'TS

  • Thoroughly wash and moisturize your natural hair prior to install
  • Wash your scalp once every 2-3 weeks.
  • Use more water than leave-in conditioner when moisturizing (60/40)
  • Don't comb or brush hair extensions - always finger detangle
  • Don't use wig products on hair extensions - use mousse and/or oil sheen
  • Don't blow dry - always air dry natural hair and the extensions
  • Don't moisturize every day - 3 to 4 times a week will suffice

This fairly simple routine will keep your hairstyle fresh and clean. Pay attention to the condition of your natural hair and the extensions as time goes on and wash or moisturize accordingly. If you follow these steps, your Zuto Hair extensions will be in great shape to reuse over and over!
